TALKING TO BUDDHA.
TALKING TO BUDDHA
I find it mind-boggling! That one man, 5,000 years ago, laid down a philosophy of life outside Hinduism, so far outside, that time and again attempts were made to destroy that philosophy. Yet it has survived, and spread to all corners of our Earth. From this great Man’s thoughts, and from the Dalai Lama, who expounds this Philosophy, we never fail to gain comfort, peace of mind and soul, and, indeed, a mooring to Life.
Your 45 minutes of Internet Buddhaspeak is something you need, and I am glad you are doing it!
Every day you will face irritants and irritating people in your work. You will sometimes be devastated by betrayals that, at that time, will seem so soul-destroying. Occasionally you will be put firmly in your place by someone you respect, or whom you do not respect yet have to obey without protest. You will feel belittled in front of your colleagues, friends and juniors during some event, and will feel shamed and derided. You will wail at the apparent thanklessness of your tasks, at the hard donkey work you may put in to see it being taken for granted even when it is not really your work.
Such adversities during work are verily a part of life. They are bound to occur, to greater or lesser degrees, at every step. However, there is, always, the reverse of the coin – all work has its compensations. The self-satisfaction of some job accomplished and well accomplished! The awareness of a success story owing a major part of its success to your inputs. The knowledge of the value of what you are doing, or trying to do. The fact that each task of yours, like the ripples spreading from a pebble tossed into a pond, will finally affect and enhance the quality of life of so many.
Carefully consider what you are doing. Remind yourself every morning. What are you doing? Why are you doing it? I know you are impelled to do what you are. I know how strongly motivated you have become. I can see the passion in you.
Do not let small things upset you – a person’s mannerisms, a friend’s moodiness, a job’s thanklessness – you can always make it obvious to any person that you don’t like her habits… she may resent it, yet she may become less blatant. You can forgive and ignore your friend’s behavior – hey! You put up with your brother for so many years!! – maybe he is going through a bad patch? As to your job, though it is difficult, sometimes you have to say no. Or go to your boss and explain that it is not your job to do certain tasks, that you will do it this time again, but please don’t keep dumping them on you. Or are the chores so time-consuming and onerous … sometimes it is easier to give in and get it out of the way. You have to work your way out of each adverse situation – believe me, later you may even look back and grin at how you raged at minor irritants.
Just keep reminding yourself for whom you are working, and why you are working.
And go back to “Nam Myo-Ho Rengke Kyo” – respect multi-faceted perfect Path.

MYO-HO ….. All aspects of life…. The negative and positive, black versus white and the primaries and the shades in between, good which cannot be virtuous if there were not bad to be evil, up as opposed to down, left going away from right, the opposites and the apposites, the ins and the outs, pluses against minuses, exaltation mirroring depression, implosion into a black hole followed by a big bang explosion, the centrifugal tugging the centripetal, the solo as opposed to the symphony, and oftener the cacophony – these are all aspects of Life, to be accepted humbly. For that you think right, another may think wrong, yet….
RENGKE … and perfection of living, as epitomized by the symmetry of the Lotus….For it is in all of us to strive to be beautiful in our own perception, whole as an individual, complete as a person, ideal in our achievements – each person will surely have a different concept of what is perfect, and any one concept may be opposed to another.
KYO ….. along the path that is right. Yet each and every person knows of two basic facts
– what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’, and these are almost immutable. Stick to your knowledge and conscience, and though you may be materially poorer, you will be richer in experience.
– and what is known all, that there is but one path after birth, and that is the way to death, and none may leave or avoid that path. Immortality is memory, for you are immortal only for as long you are remembered.
